TITLE: Programs Intern

REPORTS TO: Manager Cancer Control Programs
STATUS: Internship, Part-Time
The DC Cancer Consortium (DCCC) is a community-based 501(c)(3) public charity composed of more than 75 organizations from the healthcare and advocacy communities committed to addressing cancer control and prevention in the District of Columbia Metropolitan area. We are working to implement the 2012-2016 DC Cancer Control Plan, our road map to reduce cancer incidence and mortality, reduce racial and ethnic disparities in access to care, prevention and cancer treatment, and improve the quality of life for cancer survivors. The Program Intern will report directly to the Manager of Cancer Control Programs and will primarily support the Programs team, as well as external Grant Writer.
Duties will include:
Research best practices for program development
Participate in weekly program staff team meetings
Support all program team projects, including event logistics and communication/marketing projects
Support committee and sub-committee activities
Attend meetings with Cancer Control Program Manager and other staff and committee members as needed
•Assist with grants management including:
•Progress report reviews
•Coordinate networking meetings for sub-grantee groups
•Research and implement online reporting portal for grantee quarterly reports
•Set up and manager a section on DCCC website for sub-grantees
•Support sub-grantee projects
3. Communications – Will coordinate with Communications Manager specific tasks, including:
•Support ongoing website development and design, evaluation of effectiveness, and functionality
•Provide web statistics to DOH upon request
•Support communications development firm in branding and marketing efforts
•Write press releases, radio PSAs, and web content
•Maintain media contact list
•Support sub-grantee communications projects
•Support member communication activities, including but not limited to social media projects, promotional materials, and event promotion
4. Volunteer Engagement
• Survey staff and membership regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
• Supports and/or directs volunteer activities as assigned
• Recommend the most efficient use of volunteers
• Participates in volunteer orientation and trainings
• Schedules volunteer activities as assigned
• Participates in volunteer recognition programs and special events
• Host and attend recruiting events to attract volunteers
• Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers
• Facilitate distribution of information relevant to volunteer
5. Membership Engagement
• Assists in updating, adding and maintaining membership records
• Assists in coordination and logistical support for trainings, events and special projects
6. Databases, mailings and mail list maintenance
• Creates and maintains database(s) to assure data integrity and database performance
• Creates and maintains mailing/rsvp lists for solicitations and special events; inputs into database related to event invitations, registrants and attendees
• Perform mail merges and assist with solicitation and other department mailings
7. Other duties as assigned
• Creates and produces customized reports as requested
• Supports events, including receptions, seminars, and dinners as requested. Travel to events/functions as necessary to provide support for the organization as requested
• Performs other job related duties as required

• Experience: Proficiency in working with culturally diverse populations.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment, and techniques.

• Education and/or Experience: High School diploma and related experience.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents; good writing skills, ability to generate reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
• Personal Attributes: Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and integrity. Able to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects and to work both independently and in a team. Concern for the health of the community and an interest in community health as a career is desirable.
• Communication Skills: Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram form.
• Computer Skills: Experience with and knowledge of computer operation; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). Knowledge and experience using social media.
Performance of this job will be evaluated semi-annually in accordance with the provisions of the applicable policies of the DC Cancer Consortium. Upon successful completion of the internship period, qualified candidates may be eligible for part-time or full time employment opportunities with the organization
UNPAID INTERNSHIP TERMS
This is an unpaid part-time internship position. Work schedule and other conditions of employment are in accordance with the policies of the DC Cancer Consortium.
